Do I need an interior designer?
It’s a question people often ask themselves.
Yet, one of the things I hear most of all is how much people struggle to create the kind of home they’d really love to live in. They admire other houses, they are surrounded by images of amazing homes in magazines, on Instagram and Pinterest and yet they cannot recreate that for themselves.
I think one of the most important roles of a designer is to step back and take an objective view. That’s gold to a client who’s completely overwhelmed by the task in hand.
I’m never sure why we think we have to be able to do everything ourselves and like an expert.
I know the things I can do well and the things I am utterly rubbish at and yet I still think I should be able to do those things, without help….my garden springs to mind here.
Joking aside, an interior designer will spend a vast amount of time, immersed in the world of interiors. They have knowledge, experience and skill and that all important objective view. Designers help you work out exactly what you want, navigate the overwhelming world of interior design and nail that transformation.
People can feel overwhelmed by choice and decisions, something designers absolutely love. Choice and decisions is how they create their magic.
A good designer will also work with your budget in mind and help you achieve the design you’re looking for within your price bracket. Often designers have trade accounts with suppliers and offer discounts you can benefit from.
Finally, designers will have worked on so many projects that they can give you a real sense of perspective, which can be very reassuring when you’re immersed in a project that feels complex and challenging.
